Dr Jane Mills is an Australian trained General Surgeon, who specialises in Breast, Endocrine and Melanoma surgery.  She completed sub-specialist fellowship training in both Breast and Endocrine surgery, whilst training in Canada, and has completed a Masters Research Degree in Melanoma and its novel treatments.

She treats public patients at the Royal Hobart Hospital, and private patients at Calvary Healthcare and Hobart Private Hospital.  She is a clinical consultant for BreastScreen Tasmania and is actively involved in teaching at the Royal Hobart Hospital and University of Tasmania Clinical School.

Training

Jane graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2007.  She commenced General Surgical training with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2010, and completed her general surgical training in the Victoria/Tasmania training program in 2015.

She is interested in surgical research, having completed a research fellowship at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon in 2012.  During this time she completed a Masters of Epidemiology (MEpi) from the University of Queensland.

In 2015-2016 she undertook a Research Fellowship in Surgical Oncology and a Masters of Surgery investigating novel targeted immunotherapy treatment for melanoma.

In 2017, Jane undertook a clinical fellowship in Breast Cancer and Melanoma Surgery at the University of Toronto, Canada.  In 2017-2018 she completed an American Academy of Endocrine Surgeons (AAES) accredited fellowship in Endocrine Surgery at the University of Calgary.

Jane received the Foundation of Surgery Research Scholarship in 2016 and the Hugh Johnson ANZ Chapter ACS travelling Fellowship in 2017 from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

Jane grew up in Hobart and studied Medicine at the University of Tasmania, and is very thankful to be returning to Hobart to practice.

Her interests outside of work involve outdoor pursuits. She is an avid hiker, runner, gardener and cyclist.  She loves to snowboard, cross country ski and snowshoe in the winter.
